Hi, I’m Shilpa!
About Me
As a design strategist, I apply design thinking methods to solve complex problems with a user-centered approach. I have 10 years of total industry experience and 7 years of experience in the field of design. My skills are T-shaped with a broad ability to work across the design spectrum and a depth in strategic research & experience design.
A Brief History
My undergraduate degree is in electrical engineering with a focus on embedded systems. I also fell in love with neuroscience during my undergraduate years. I did 2 years of academic research in computational neuroscience and took all my electives in this area, which gave me in-depth exposure to experimental design and applications of data science.
After graduating, I worked as an embedded engineer for 3 years, designing and developing smart building control systems. I was soon named the “customer advocate” for constantly asking questions about use cases and customer needs. With a penchant for systems thinking and a desire to understand behavior, I returned to school for my Masters in Human-Computer Interaction.
Since then, I have been practicing design thinking in technology companies. My favorite part of this field is that it shines the way for business to make human needs the center of their missions.
My Superpowers
With an ability to speak the languages of user research, design software, data science and academic research, I excel at multidisciplinary projects at the heart of innovation. My greatest strength is connecting the dots between user needs, business strategy, and advanced technological solutions that go beyond simple software.
My Passions
From the Eyes of My Teammates
"Able to read the room and reroute when necessary"
"Like the rudder to our ship: steers the direction but not overpowering"
"Articulate. I'm never confused about what she's saying"
"Able to see the bigger picture"
